Chocolate Coconola Strawberry Yogurt Cups

Chocolate chunks and coconut clusters turn a simple yogurt bowl into a breakfast with plenty of texture. Fresh strawberries add juicy, slightly tart bites that keep the chocolate from dominating.

Ingredients

Amounts above are for cooking. Products are sold in retail packages; pantry extras may be needed.

Method

  1. Flavor the yogurt

Stir vanilla into cold yogurt for 15 seconds, until smoothly blended. Return it to the refrigerator while you cut the berries.

  2. Prepare the strawberries

Rinse and dry the strawberries, remove their caps and slice 1/4 inch thick. Halve any broad slices so they fit easily on a spoon.

  3. Fill the cups

Divide yogurt between two cups or shallow bowls. Arrange the sliced berries on one side, leaving room for the granola.

  4. Add the coconola

Spoon the measured coconola onto the other side. Fold each cup once at the table and serve immediately before the clusters lose their crunch.

Kitchen tips

Pat strawberries dry with a clean towel to keep the yogurt thick.

Let the chocolate clusters sit on top rather than stirring them into warm or wet fruit.

Substitutions

Use an unsweetened dairy-free yogurt if avoiding milk; check the granola and yogurt labels.

Drained thawed cherries work in place of strawberries and bring a deeper, tart flavor.

If avoiding gluten, choose a comparable granola explicitly labeled gluten-free and check the other ingredients; the original version is not certified here.

Storage

Refrigerate yogurt and fruit separately for up to 2 days; store clusters dry and add just before eating.

Serving suggestions

Serve in small bowls with extra strawberry slices on the side and a cup of hot coffee.

Make ahead

Slice berries and mix vanilla yogurt separately up to 1 day ahead. Assemble just before serving and keep the coconola dry.

Frequently asked questions

Can I heat the berries?

You can soften them briefly in a pan, but cool them before adding yogurt so the clusters and chocolate do not melt.

Does changing the yogurt remove all nuts?

No. The original coconola includes cashews, pecans and coconut; consult its label before making substitutions.
